Finally out of hibernation...just in time for a few good days before the rain came to town. Supposedly we only have, oh, 5 more days of straight rain before it starts to dry out and warm up again. Come on sunshine!
This weekend was especially fun. The
Virginia Gold Cup races took place on Saturday, and the rain held out long enough to watch the horses run, jump and sprint to the finish. Gold Cup is not Thoroughbred racing, it is Steeplechase, so they jump hedges and fences, run through ponds and sprint around an enormous field to the finish.

I was luckily enough to score an amazing Title Sponsor tent ticket on Members' Hill, so I felt especially fancy! Champagne, mint juleps, crab cakes, and the best view on the field...what could be better? If you've never been to or heard of Gold Cup, let me tell you, it is a sight to see.
Virginia Blog Cup (where I borrowed the above pictures) gives you a good idea of what to expect, but my favorite description of the day was something along the lines of "The Grove in pastel at the races". Think critter pants, popped collars, Lilly dresses and big floppy hats. I don't typically partake in the Lilly fashion scene, but I did get all dolled up for the day...it was too much fun not to. Next year, I say we get a tent of our own. Who's in?

We are!
