Day 1206

Day 25 of Wonderful: Extraordinary Strength

http://arkansasmatters.com/content/video/?cid=293332

No photo today, but the link above will serve in its place.

You may remember 8 months ago today when I wrote of the tragic loss of my good friend Sarah and Taylor's baby girl, who passed on prior to her birth. I can't even imagine the pain, anger, frustration and agony a parent must feel to lose a child, especially before ever getting to see her first smile, first laugh, first coo or even take her first breath. Sarah and Taylor are such amazing people, and it's really hard for me to still hear the struggles they go through day-to-day as they are still grieving their beautiful Mamie.

Recently, Sarah was interviewed (linked above) in Little Rock representing an organization she has recently become part of, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. This is a group of photographers who volunteer their services to families who have just lost a baby at birth. Sarah and Taylor were blessed to have photographs taken of sweet Mamie, which they cherish more than words can say. And now, Sarah, who is an amazing photographer herself, is giving back to those who may suffer the unexplainable tragedy that she did 8 months ago. In the interview, Sarah tells her story, and talks about the organization itself.

Sarah, I am so proud of you each and every day. For your strength, your unwavering faith in God, and the love that you and Taylor share. You teach all of us how to survive through the worst imaginable circumstances, and I inspire to grow my faith as yours is.

Please continue to pray for Sarah and Taylor. Although our situations differ so greatly, I understand that the grieving process is a long, hard road until the fog lifts. You never forget, and the pain never quite goes away, but you finally are able to start feeling normal and live again. I love you guys, and am so proud of all you do and hold dear.

Day 1202

Day 21 of Wonderful: Daydreaming

Another busy day, starting with church and followed by an afternoon of running errands and then cleaning, laundry and fixing things in my house. For Lent, I gave up chocolate (been craving it way too much lately) but also took on going to church each Sunday.

I'm glad I went today; the homily was really great..all about trust in your relationships and in God, which is something I have been focusing on especially lately in my thoughts and prayers. But there was one story that our priest told that hit me a little too hard, and pretty much turned my hopeful day into an off one with just a few words. He related our trust in God to a little girl, standing on the edge of a pool, with her father inside, urging her to jump. I realize the point he was making, but still, it really got to me. Lately, I have been thinking about dad a lot, and really, really missing him so much it hurts.

So anyway, I'm glad that I was busy for the rest of the day, but even so those aching thoughts kept creeping back to me every so often. I got frustrated and short, and really the only thing to pull me out of it was to focus my thoughts on my two favorite places to daydream about...a Caribbean beach or Paris.

Quick sidenote: I am DYING to go to both. The Caribbean, probably more so now because I am so done with the cold weather, and Paris, well, because it's Paris. My Paris obsession has gone a bit overboard lately, and as you will soon find out in the next few weeks or so.

Anyway, I know it sounds crazy, but at least when I tell myself to slow down and think one of these two places, surrounded by my favorite people, it really does calm me. Then I can start focus on slowing my heart rate down and pushing the tears back. And then I direct my thoughts and prayers on trusting God has put me exactly where I should be. I think happy thoughts and pray for God to give me trust and patience, in every part of my life. Trust and patience...what I feel I need most in my life. Well, that, and a destination above. But for now, I can daydream anytime I want.

Day 1193

Day 12 of Wonderful: XXI Winter Olympics

I may not be a winter sports kind of girl, but I love, love, love the Olympics. The triumph of the win and the agony of defeat...it reaches the heights of human emotions in every aspect, and leaves me in tears pretty much every night. To work so hard all of your life to achieve such greatness...as dad would say, "It doesn't get much better than this."

I'm retiring to my couch early tonight for a bit of rest and relaxation and to watch the Opening Ceremonies. Goodnight, and hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

***On another later note, my heart goes out to the Georgian Olympic Team and to the family and friends of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the luger who was killed in a crash during a training run today. He was only 21 years old. What a terrible tragedy on a day that is supposed to be filled with such hope and joy. Truly heartbreaking. My prayers go out to them all.

*****And on even later note, I've already started crying and we're only on Austria in the parade of athletes. Oh Lord...let the games begin.

Day 1166

Haitian Relief Events in the Washington, DC Area

I just wanted to post two events being held in Washington tomorrow to support Haiti. The first is a survival kit drive, the second a prayer service...both ways to support those in need if you may not have cash to donate.

Haitian Embassy to Hold Survival Kit Drive Tomorrow

From DCist:
The National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians will be collecting donations this Sunday, Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the embassy, located at 2311 Massachusetts Ave. NW. The list of items they are asking for include: baby formula (dry/powder), baby wipes, baby bottles, diapers, baby clothes, toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste), hand sanitizer, vitamins, first aid kits, over the counter medicines, socks, blankets, mosquito repellent, flashlights, batteries, candles, flip flops, T-shirts, pants, lightweight jackets, and non-perishable food items not in cans. If you are able to donate any of these items, simply bring them by the embassy on Sunday, or call 202-904-9070 with any questions.

Strength through Unity -- L'Union fait la Force: A Service of Prayer for Haiti

Sunday, January 17, 2010; 6 PM, National Cathedral

Participants & Guests:
The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, offering a sermon;
Bishop of Washington John Bryson Chane, offering the invocation;
Auxiliary Bishop of Washington Barry C. Knestout, representing the Most Rev. Donald W. Wuerl, archbishop of Washington;
Cathedral Dean Samuel T. Lloyd III, offering the welcome; and
The Cathedral Choir of Men and Girls
Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
His Excellency Raymond Joseph, Haitian ambassador to the U.S.

Gracious God,
I lift my voice in prayer with all the people of the world.

Surround Haiti and her people
with your loving embrace
that they may be:

supported by the world in the work of rescue and recovery;
comforted as they grieve;
strengthened as they bury their dead;
healed as they tend their wounds;
restored in faith and the
hope of things unseen;
and transformed through newness of life in Christ.

Make me an instrument
of divine love, of mercy, of hope, and of new possibility.
Give me eyes to see,
ears to hear, the will to act, and a discerning and generous heart
that I may serve you and those who suffer in whatever way I am able.

In and through the power of the Holy Spirit, I pray. Amen.

Day 1163

In light of Haiti's tragic earthquake yesterday, and the large aftershocks continuing throughout today, I feel compelled to post relief organizations accepting donations toward efforts to help Haitians survive through this deadly disaster.

Haiti is already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and was still recovering from deadly 2008 hurricanes when the quake struck. Port-au-Prince, Haiti's Capital and just 10 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake, is a city of over 2 million people.

Due to the loss of infrastructure throughout the country, and therefore no place to store your collectibles (clothes, bottled water, etc), cash is the best donation to give. Cash allows professionals to get exactly what they need and does not use up scarce resources such as transportation, staff time or warehouse space.

There are many reputable organizations accepting donations now:

Catholic Relief Services
https://secure.crs.org/site/Donation2?df_id=3181&3181.donation=form1

Also, as Haiti is a predominately Catholic country, Catholic Relief Services has an office permanently in Port-au-Prince, and its blog, http://crs-blog.org/, is publishing updates from their staffers in Haiti as they can.

American Red Cross
Text Haiti to 90999, and a donation of $10 will be added to your next phone bill. The organization is also accepting donations through its International Response Fund, http://www.redcross.org

Wyclef Jean's Haitian Yele charity
Text 501501, and $5 will be added to your next phone bill.

Clinton Foundation
http://www.clintonfoundation.org/haitiearthquake

Wal-Mart
http://www.walmartstores.com/haiti

Oxfam
http://www.oxfam.org.uk

CNN.com also has a link which breaks down organizations to what they provide: Basic needs, shelter, medical aid and food. Many of these organizations already have an office in Haiti, and I'm told it's important to try and donate to an organization already down there to help get immediate funds to the country.
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/impact/

Below is the American Red Cross video...just tragic.

And if you just cannot donate money to help, prayers are needed.

Day 962

An update from the sister of my dear friend:

Mamie was born at 3:15 a.m Thursday, June the 25th. She weighed 5lbs.11oz. and was 18 inches long. She was beautiful and perfect with a little bit of brown curly hair and brown eyes like her mama. Sarah and Taylor are grieving this deep loss and Sarah is yearning for her child. We ask that you please continue to pray for their strength. We all feel your prayers. Thank you for them. The Lord is here with us. We will update you as we know more. Reverend Andrea Allen is blessing Mamie this morning. There will be a funeral service, but details are not known at this time. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. Our Lord is good.

Love,
Britney and both Families

Please continue to pray for them...words cannot express my heartbreak for them right now. So, so horrible. Prayers are definitely needed right now.

Day 961

Prayer request please:

One of my dearest friends is 8 1/2 months pregnant and lost her baby today. She still has to deliver, which could take days, because she was not even dilated yet. I don't even know what to say...this is just too heartbreaking for words. Please, please if you read this pray for my dear friend, her husband and their precious baby girl who left us today, even before we got to see her beautiful face. I know the amount of pain you feel for loosing someone you love, but what happened today...I just can't even begin to imagine their loss.

I love you so much dear friend, and I am sending prayers of strength as you endure this labor and healing as you mourn what should be the most joyful day. So many prayers are lifted up for you and your sweet baby girl right now.

Day 588

Little Rock, and the 10-year high school reunion, was way too much fun, hence my posting absence until tonight. I'm still trying to catch up on all my sleep, although now I'm stuck watching Game 6 of the NBA Finals, so looks like I won't be getting to bed early tonight either.

It was really so good to see and catch up with everyone, and I am very happy I spent the money and came home after all. I'll post some photos below, but just too warn you, it was two long, hot nights outside in Arkansas...not my best!

Some housekeeping from the last post: I didn't end up buying any of the three books I mentioned. The first one I really wanted, but they didn't have it in stock. The other two were entirely too big to tote around on the plane ride home. So I ended up with Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express". She's an author I've always wanted to read, and so far, she's exceeding my expectations. A very good read so far.

As for Father's Day on Sunday, well, I just tried not to think about it all weekend. I think the fact that I was a bit hungover and extremely tired on my travels home Sunday helped me get through the day. It didn't help that every flight attendant and random stranger on the plane brought it up, but luckily my hazy state of the day didn't get too affected.

I'm still not trying to think much about it, but everywhere I've looked this week has reminded me of him. Tim Russert's death, a Newsweek article on cancer, the NBA Finals. All unrelated, but still, I'm reminded hard of dad this week. And speaking of Tim Russert's death--what a untimely passing. My heart goes out to his friends and family. I can tell you first hand, his passing has been hard on many in Washington.

And now for many prayer requests: besides the many MSM '98ers that I found out were expecting, I now have 4 good friends who will be having babies! All your little beans are in my prayers ladies! And also, I found out another good friend's father has a malignant tumor in his eye. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as well.

Some photos from the weekend...since I'd rather just take the pictures than be in them, I only have a few with me in them. Please send some my way if you have them!

My thirsty friend in the Cleveland airport...I just thought this was too funny!

Day 570

It only takes a moment to have any and all questions of a Higher Power's existence reaffirmed. That Higher Power just saved my life tonight. Saved my life and answered my "Where are You in my life?" question in a split second.

About an hour ago, I had just left my aunt & uncle's house and was heading home on Canal Road. It's a dark, winding road just off the B & O Canal that connects two rivers on the Georgetown Waterfront. There's about 3 miles between lights, with only a small section in the middle for yielding oncoming traffic. To the North, the road Ys up the hill to some houses. To the South, the road splits down the hill to the boat docks at the Canal. Both splits yield to the traffic on Canal Road.

Since it's a quick thoroughfare between two parts of the city, it's a regular practice to drive pretty fast on the road. The speed limit is 35 mph, but it's common for people to be driving 50-60 mph during rush hour. Tonight, I was going b/w 40-45 mph, primarily because it was a nice night out and I was just enjoying the drive. That is, until some jackass almost killed me.

I was heading East on Canal Road, and was approaching the part of the road where the cars coming up from the boat docks should be stopping to wait for me to pass. Well, the jackass decided he wanted to gun it and beat me to the road. Keep in mind, I have NO STOP, NO YIELD, NOTHING. I had the right of way 100%.

So the jackass is flying up on my right, and thank you God for making my side mirror flicker, because the jackass was literally inches from smashing into me before I saw the flicker and swerved into the other lane. And thank you God that the lane just happened to widen at that one spot. And thank you God that the two cars in oncoming traffic saw the whole incident as it was about to happen and therefore swerved as I swerved. Thank you God for saving me tonight. It could have been VERY ugly.

My heart has finally settled back into my chest and I'm calm again, but the whole rest of the way home, I couldn't help to think what could have happened. It could have been Lindann's accident all over again. I could have been a lot worse. It was very possible I could have been sideswipped and then smashed head on. Even possible I could have flown off the cliff and into the canal. But God, you were there, and you saved me. I know it was You. Even after all my doubt over the years, my questioning and my doubt, not in You, but maybe Your intentions, You showed up tonight and showed me You're still my guy.

Thank You. It really does take times like these for me to sit back and understand how everything really is in Your hands. I may not like how everything goes. But I do know there is a rhyme and a reason for it all. Tonight was not my night to be hurt. Not even a scratch, on me or my car. Your protection was, and always is, a great gift. Thank You.

Oh, and the jackass? He pointed and laughed as he flew ahead of me, flying down the road at very high speeds toward Georgetown. I passed him at a light and just shook my head. I was so angry, so furious that there is that much carelessness out there in the world. But he was not my battle to fight tonight.

Day 548

Tuesday I went out and bought a new pair of running shoes. This morning, I broke my toe. How's that for good timing? Let me tell you something, it might not look or sound like much, but it sure does hurt like you wouldn't believe! Ouch! I woke up from my nap this afternoon not because of my Blackberry buzzing or my alarm going off. No, it was because my pain medicine wore off and my foot was throbbing!

The funny thing is, I was kind of freaking out when I bought my new running shoes because I was worried about hurting myself. I went to a specialty running store because I've been having issues with shin splits since I started up running again, and I wanted them to fit me properly in a new pair. They measured my foot and brought out a size 6 (did I ever mention how much I loved my feet...it's because they're the only small part about me). But once I tried those kicks on, and then a 6 1/2 and then a 7, he realized that one of my problems is that I wear my running shoes way too tight. I ended up buying a 7 1/2, but was very uncomfortable about the purchase. Primarily because I'm not used to wearing my shoes with that much room in them, and I was concerned about my ankle rolling and getting injured.

Long story short, my ankle turned out not to be what I should have worried about. Instead it was the 8 pound weights I had thrown on my bedroom floor...I rammed into them with my left, second-to-pinky toe, and everything came crashing down. Literally. I must have knocked into my side table along the way, because books, pictures frames, and even a shadow box on the wall came down on top of me. All this about 5 minutes before I went to work, so I picked up my shoes and ran out the door, broken toe and all.

At the same time, I got really bad news from a friend, such news that makes me feel like all this is just me whining and complaining. I mentioned this about a week or two ago, but my friend's little one-year old niece, Georgia, had gotten her results back from her surgery, and it turns out her tumor is malignant. It's a neuroblastoma, a cancer most commonly associated with children under two years old. Poor baby girl has a long road ahead of her, starting with chemo. She's at home right now with her family, and I just ask that you all pray for this precious child and her family right now. I can't even imagine how hard this is for all of them and it would be great if we could all remember them right now. Kathy, tell Emily that we've got a team of prayers behind Miss Georgia right now! I'm a true believer that prayer really works!

I think I've spoken of Novenas before, and this one, to St. Gerard (the Patron Saint of Mothers) is especially for sick children. You say it for nine consecutive days or nine consecutive hours.

For a Sick Child
St. Gerard, who, like the Savior, loved children so tenderly and by your prayers freed many from disease and even death, listen to us who are pleading for our sick child. We thank God for the great gift of our daughter and ask him to restore our child to health if such be his holy will. This favor, we beg of you through your love for all children and mothers. Amen.

Day 545

So this weekend was my cousin Valeri's First Holy Communion. My grandmother came into town, as did my aunt from NYC and my cousin Ursula, her husband, and their 6 kids. Fun times, and it was really great to see everyone. It's really nice having family up here to share these times with. Here are some pictures of Miss Valeri:

Yikes, this is what happens to me when I get no sleep.

Valeri cut off all her hair and gave it to Locks of Love...isn't it adorable?

Jack was pouting because he hated his new haircut. I must admit, I like it better long too.

Day 539

Mom got on to me this weekend about my slacking on the blog posts lately, so even though I was a walking zombie today, had to work late, and would rather have my head on my pillow, I'll please her and log in for the evening.

Well, Little Rock was great fun. The wedding was such a great time and so beautiful. The bride was just gorgeous too, and I'm very glad I came home for this one. Mom had to work all weekend, and Marissa & Lindann were both out-of-town for the weekend, so I had a very busy day on Monday. Mom and I woke up early and went for a long walk, and then we were off to do wedding stuff. I tried on tons of bridesmaids dresses (and we found a few that fit great), saw Lindann's wedding dress in person (it is absolutely gorgeous), then went to look at table settings, linens, etc. Granted that Lindann and Neil sign off on what we found, we really think that we have a good idea of what we're going to do.

Also on Monday, we stopped by my good friend's house to see her precious one-month old baby boy. Anne, Ford is just beautiful! I could have had him stay asleep in my arms forever! He really is so, so adorable and I am so happy for you and Ryan.

Once again, this blog has a circle-of-life theme. I found out this morning that an old friend's mother passed away this morning. She had been fighting cancer for a few years now, and had slipped off in a very similar way that my father did. Please pray that the family has peace in that she is now out of pain and in God's hands. It just breaks my heart that Kelly and her family are having to experience this heartbreak, so please everyone keep them in your prayers.

Another prayer request too, this time for someone much younger. A friend's one-year-old niece is having surgery on Friday to have a tumor removed. They found a walnut sized tumor between the right lung and spine, at the base of her neck. Please pray for this sweet baby girl, her parents, and all her family and loved ones during this trying time.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Day 520

Ever heard of SAD? Seasonal Affective Disorder? I swear I must have it. Today the city finally warmed up, the sun was shining, the flowers were blooming and I felt great. I was just soooo ready to get away from the grey skies, cold air and constant rain. Hooray for Spring...I think it's finally here!

Good news...I weighed myself this morning, and I was down 4 pounds!! Now, I know that there's a difference between weighing yourself in the morning versus the night, but 4 pounds? Holy moley I'm excited about that number! It makes me feel like I'm finally getting myself together. I'm not doing this just to fit into a dress or look good for a reunion or make a guy regret he ever gave me up. Okay, maybe just a smudge of that. But really, I am seeing now that this is my body and my health that I'm working on, and that's something I don't want to take for granted anymore. I feel that this isn't just a faze, but here to stay.

Now one prayer request...my dear friend Meredith is having her baby boy Cole any minute now. Please pray that Meredith and Cole have a safe and healthy birth! Can't wait to meet that little dumpling!

Sunday, April 6, 2008

Day 516

Pretty tough weekend. Glad it's over. For me, that is. For those I spent the past four days praying with and for, well, they are in for a long and tiring road of mourning and healing.

I think it was hardest for me to see the kids. I just felt so, so sorry for them all. My heart was really breaking for them, because all of them are just so young. Maybe it's a bit easier that way, not quite knowing what to make of the death of their parent. Then again, I wouldn't trade the pain I felt for the years I got with dad. I'd take a thousand times more for just one more moment with him.

There were parts of both funerals and visitations where I had moments of selfishness. Seeing the bodies was hard, and so were hearing certain words in the scripture and homily. But for the most part, I couldn't remember much about dad's service, and I didn't care to really think that hard about it. It was hard enough seeing the grief and anguish on the faces of the families. I recognized the pain, but did not want to revisit my own. My heart was aching enough for all of these people who were suffering through these deaths.

Not sure if many of you know this, but I have two voicemail messages from my dad that I have saved on my cell phone for almost two years now. Every few months, the saved time will expire, and the messages will play with the option to resave them. Some days it is almost unbearable to hear his voice. Others hurt a little less. But he always seems to pop up to say hello at very marked moments.

The first time I heard them, very unexpectedly, was on my 27th birthday, a little over a month after dad died. Guess he just wanted to tell me Happy Birthday, but wow, that was a tough birthday message to hear.

Today I dropped off some food at the house of my co-worker. We talked a bit about how he was doing, and I was relaying a bit of my experience, trying to reassure him that things will get easier as time goes on. When I pulled away from his house, I had a new voicemail from my aunt. And then dad said hello to me twice. As always, it was hard to hear his voice. But today it put a smile on my face through those tears. I guess he just wanted to remind me that he's still with me. I hope that those suffering right now, so new to this kind of pain, will remember that there loved ones will always be with them too.

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Day 513

The rain outside is tapping against my windows, lulling me to sleep. This day has been long--a late night at work and a lunch break at a funeral home. Being there was harder than I thought it would be. Tomorrow I have a funeral in the morning and then start the process over again with a visitation at night. I'm tired tonight, but at least I'll be sleeping soundly tonight. I'll be praying for those who won't be. Tomorrow and Saturday are going to be rough for too many people.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Day 511

At the grocery store today, I bought three cards. Two sympathy cards and one wishing congratulations. Talk about the circle of life...last night my dear friends Anne and Ryan Gill welcomed their precious baby boy into their lives--Ford Benjamin Gill! Welcome Ford, and CONGRATULATIONS Anne and Ryan! I can't wait to meet him!!

Sometimes it takes a special miracle of a new baby to realize what a blessing this life is. I am so happy for all of my friends' new additions...there have been many over the last few years, and many more are on the way. Check out my friend Sarah's blog; she took some ADORABLE pictures of some good friends' babies this past week. One thing that makes me happy is seeing all these beautiful, wonderful babies. They always put a smile on my face!

One more prayer request while you're thinking of them: a good friend's mom has been struggling with cancer for the past few years, and they moved her yesterday from the hospital to a hospice facility. Please pray for her peace and comfort, and also that she's able to get her strength back to walk again so she can go home.

I guess that's the way life is, huh? The good with the bad. The new with the old. The mourning of death with the celebration of new life. The circle of life. Funny how God likes to remind me that this is just the way life works. And that I should take it all as one. All are still in my prayers.

Sunday, March 30, 2008

Day 509

Two pieces of terrible news came my way today, and I ask you all to please keep the following in your thoughts and prayers tonight. The first is that a co-worker's wife passed away yesterday. She had breast cancer and was doing really well, but developed a blood clot and passed away very suddenly. She was young, and leaves behind her husband and three young children. Please keep them in your heart and prayers as they mourn their loss.

The second came a few minutes ago...a family friend here in DC also has passed. The details are complicated, but please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as well. It's all just awful--he has a wife and four children that he left behind.

News like this just makes me wonder why things like this happen. I know I'll never have that answer, so all I can just do is pray that those who lost loved ones will hold on to the good times and the love they shared and remember that there are people to hold their hand and walk with them through the hard times to come. News like this just breaks my heart, because I know how heartbreaking it really is. God, please be with them all tonight.

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Day 494

I got an update on my friend's father-in-law: they did find cancer in his lung, but the good news is it is contained to only the lung. Please keep Ken Adams in your prayers as he battles this latest round, and keep in mind the Adams/Bussey family while the go through this with him.

Sarah and Taylor, I am so, so sorry to hear of this news, but you will all be in my prayers.

Thursday, March 13, 2008

Day 492

A friend's blog relayed terrible news today...her father-in-law has to go in for surgery tomorrow to see if he has lung cancer. She goes into great detail about the procedure, but please keep in mind Ken Adams as you say your nightly prayers.

I just hate to hear things like this, because I don't EVER want my friends and loved ones to have to experience what we did. Mr. Adams had a lung removed two years ago, and they are going in to see if he has an occurance in his remaining lung. Taylor, your dad is in my prayers right now!

One of my favorite ways to pray in times like this is to pray Novenas. Catholic novena prayers are prayers to special Saints who look after certain things, and are to be recited nine days in succession in petition for some favor. Some Saints are guardians over certain aspects of life, and St. Peregrine is known as "The Cancer Saint". Below is the novena I say to St. Peregrine, and will say for Mr. Adams for the next nine days:

Glorious wonder-worker, St. Peregrine, you answered the divine call with a ready spirit, and forsook all the comforts of a life of ease and all the empty honors of the world to dedicate yourself to God in the Order of His holy Mother. You labored manfully for the salvation of souls. In union with Jesus crucified, you endured painful sufferings with such patience as to deserve to be healed miraculously of an incurable cancer in your leg by a touch of His divine hand. Obtain for me the grace to answer every call of God and to fulfill His will in all the events of life. Enkindle in my heart a consuming zeal for the salvation of all men. Deliver me (or intention) from the infirmities that afflict my (their) body (especially...). Obtain for me also a perfect resignation to the sufferings it may please God to send me, so that, imitating our crucified Savior and His sorrowful Mother, I may merit eternal glory in heaven. St. Peregrine, pray for me and for all who invoke your aid.
